Postmates Delivery Bag

Introduction: Transformative Brand Design

Over the last few years food delivery apps have become all the rage. Most notably during the pandemic, people increasingly relied on companies like Postmates for their food delivery services. Sacatelle transformed the Postmates black delivery bag, which has since become an iconic staple of the Postmates brand. Once just a simple industry standard black tote with a short lifespan, we partnered with Postmates to help them create a higher quality product, and customize their bags with a splash of creativity. The goal: Lower costs, improve quality, and turn heads as their delivery bags function as the ultimate brand billboards.

When Quality Becomes Critical

The promotional industry is filled with companies who promise to deliver bags or other products with your brand’s logo on it. What many people neglect is the importance of product longevity, and quality which allows for a long product lifespan. At first glance, it may seem like saving a few cents is a business savvy decision in controlling costs, but what good is your product if it doesn't last? Postmates realized by marginally improving their bag quality, delivery drivers will reuse their bags for years instead of months. The brand exposure increased three-fold with a slight improvement in product quality.

Conclusion: Functional Design Is Everything

There are many different use cases for any particular product, ultimately depending on your brand’s end goals. What our expertise in the world of promotional products has taught us time and time again, is that the slightest modifications in functional design can provide exponential returns when it comes to real world applications. Delivery bags have a knack for ripping at the bottom, and it’s a problem we were excited to solve. After some internal testing, we identified structural weakness of their bags primarily due to food items which created an uneven distribution of weight (a to-go container with a pointy edge could easily tear through the bottom material). The solution: add a bottom insert for mere cents, to evenly distribute the weight and reduce material stress. Our bags provided extraordinary longevity, and the issue Postmates experienced with their old bags quickly became a thing of the past. An important lesson in the value of functional design. It’s important to find a promotional partner who will work with you to create a product that aligns with your brand end-goals, and in most cases, this can be achieved without an increase in price tag.
