Connecting your Shopify store

Connect a Shopify store to Merch.com in a few clicks, without ever handling an API key.

Last updated September 13, 2026

Connecting Shopify takes a couple of minutes. You approve the Merch.com app on Shopify, and from then on orders for your merch come to us automatically. Nobody on your team ever sees or pastes an API key.

#Before you start

  • You need the Admin role on your Merch.com account.
  • You need to be able to approve apps on the Shopify store.
  • Have the store's myshopify.com address handy. That is the permanent Shopify address, like example-shop.myshopify.com, not your branded domain.

#Connect from your portal

  1. Sign in to your Merch.com portal and open Settings → Stores.
  2. Choose Add store, then Shopify store.
  3. Enter the store's myshopify.com domain and choose Continue to Shopify.
  4. Approve the Merch.com app on Shopify.
  5. You land back on the new store's page in your portal, connected.

#Or start from the Shopify App Store

You can also install Merch.com from the Shopify App Store. The app is free. A store installed this way shows as Installed, unclaimed until it is linked to your Merch.com account. Your account team can help you finish that step.

#If the store is already connected to another account

Each Shopify store belongs to one Merch.com account. If you try to connect a store that is already on another account, you can request a transfer and add a note explaining why. We let the current owner know, and a Merch.com staff member approves or declines. Nothing moves until they decide.

#Connecting more than one store

Repeat the steps for each store. Each one has its own settings, its own protection rules and its own status, all on one account.

#Reconnecting a store

If a store shows Needs reconnect or Permissions changed, open it in Settings → Stores and reconnect. It runs the same approval on Shopify. Orders placed while a store is not connected may not reach us, so reconnect quickly and ask your account team to check any orders placed in the gap.

#What the connection does not do

The connection is about orders. It does not change your Shopify product listings or push stock counts into Shopify. You keep managing those in Shopify, and you see live stock levels for the merch we hold in your portal. See Inventory alerts to get warned before something runs low.
