What Stores are for

How connected Shopify stores, API stores and native Merch Shops fit into your account.

Last updated September 13, 2026

A store is anywhere shoppers buy your merch and pay for it themselves. Every store on your account sends its orders to us, and we pick, pack and ship them from the merch we hold for you. You find them all in your portal under Settings → Stores.

#The three kinds of store

  • Shopify. Your own Shopify store, connected to your Merch.com account. Shoppers check out on Shopify, the order comes to us, and the tracking goes back to Shopify. This is live today. See Connecting your Shopify store.
  • API. Any other store or system that sends us orders through the Merch.com API, with a key tied to that store so its orders stay separate. See the Orders API.
  • Merch.com (Merch Shops). A branded store we host for you on your own domain. Merch Shops are in early access. See Merch Shops early access.

#Why stores are separate from campaigns

A campaign is how your company sends merch to people: gifts, onboarding kits, event swag. A store is how shoppers buy it. Both ship from the same warehouses and the same stock, so you can run a campaign and a store side by side without splitting inventory. Not sure which one you need? #What each store lets you set

Every store has its own settings, so a wholesale store and a consumer store can behave differently:

  • General. The store name, how order numbers look, and what happens to carts that mix our merch with products you ship yourself.
  • Address verification. Follow your account defaults, or set stricter or looser rules for this store.
  • Regions and routing. Which of our warehouses serve which countries.
  • Payments. What happens to an order whose payment has not completed yet.
  • Protections. Rules that hold an order for review. See Store protection rules.

#Who can see and add stores

Anyone on your team with the Manager role or higher can see your stores. Adding or connecting a store needs the Admin role. See Roles and permissions.

#What the status means

  • Connected. Orders are flowing and tracking is being written back.
  • Needs reconnect. Shopify stopped accepting our connection, for example after the app was removed and added again. Open the store and reconnect it.
  • Permissions changed. The app no longer has a permission it needs. Reconnecting fixes it.
  • Installed, unclaimed. The app was installed on Shopify but is not linked to a Merch.com account yet.
  • Paused or Disconnected. Orders from this store are not being accepted.
